New Beginnings

January 26, 2010

It is 26 days into the New Year. My New Years resolution is to try and limit negative gossip – listening to it, reading about it – no more www.people.com or perezhilton.com – and definitely not spreading it – since I truly believe it does more harm than good. Of course, there is such a thing as positive gossip – if I find out about an amazing yoga class or I just tried the most delicious desert, I will gladly share. The other type of gossip, I hope will exit my life not just for this year but forever… it is a hope since I personally have felt how destructive it can be. So what will I do with my time now that Perez Hilton is no longer part of my life? Maybe now, I will have time to blog about my adventures with my daughter, Mia, who is just one day past being 23 months old.

We currently live in Santa Monica, CA. I was born in Seoul, Korea, raised in Toronto, and came to Los Angeles via New York. My daughter was born in Tarzana, CA – that is the valley – she’s a valley girl! We had an amazing OB-GYN, Dr. Rebecca Perlow, who had all the faith in me that I would have a natural delivery – no epi – and yes, it did hurt. A healthy pain. My mother, who had three natural deliveries told me it didn’t hurt her at all. When I talked to her afterwards because it really hurt me, my mother told me – yes it hurts.

Mia came out after only 20 minutes of pushing – no tears, no scarring. The first thing Mia did when she came out was grab my husband’s glasses. She was so happy and peaceful until they stuck a huge needle in her thigh muscle – the vitamin K shot. Please, if you are delivering soon, look into getting the vitamin k in digestable form, unless you do have a family history of blood clots. I really think because of that shot, she now has a violent reaction to people in white. I can’t even wear a white nightgown!

I don’t know if I will post everyday. I will try to do my best and keep it fun, light, and refreshing since that is how I see my daughter. I used to be actress and playwright. I hope to return to my chosen profession or playwrighting in a few years time. For now, I am completely happy being my daughter’s main caretaker.
